Sports
Our busiest students are our most successful students.
We know that some of life's most important lessons are not learned in the classroom; everyone needs to learn the importance of winning and losing with equal grace and dignity. Exposure to competitive activity, whether on the playing fields or across a chess board, helps hone our interpersonal skills.
It is the policy of St Peter’s College to expose all our students to a wide range of sporting activities and options, and at times, to propel them into the experience. This is achieved by providing an afternoon sports and cultural programme that offers a variety of activities on a cyclical basis throughout the year. The involvement of all our students in these codes as well as Inter-House competitions is compulsory.
We offer a number of co-curricular sporting activities for your child to enjoy:
- Athletics (road running and cross-country)
- Basketball
- Chess
- Cricket (and Cricket Scoring)
- Dance
- Equestrian
- Golf (provided there are sufficient players)
- Hockey
- Netball
- Rugby
- Soccer
- Swimming
- Squash
- Tennis
- Water Polo

Annual Sports and Cultural Festival
In September 2017 we hosted our 14th annual Sports and Cultural Festival. Each year, over 3,500 participants from 45 schools and their parents and supporters enjoy this celebration of sport and culture. U19 boys and girls compete in sports: Basketball, Chess, Netball and Soccer; and enjoy cultural activities: pavement art, choir, debating and public speaking, drama monologue and photography. The teams on the day are diverse and include independent schools and former model C schools, as well as teams from neighbouring countries. This Festival is a true representation of the interests of the entire spectrum of South Africa's population and we are the first school in South Africa to host an event of this nature.
