Dance
Dance and Movement Studies is offered as an Arts Elective subject for Grade 8 and Grade 9 pupils. Theoretically there are four components in the syllabus that deal with dance history, health, choreography and improvisation, as well as terminology and forms of dance. We have one textbook that is used over two years. Practically pupils are encouraged to make use of the four opportunities in their examinations to present personal work in any genre or form of dance they wish. When pupils exit the dance programme they have been exposed to medieval dance, ballroom, ballet, contemporary, street dance and indigenous dance; and all of them have performed solos, group dances and duos. There is no entry requirement for Dance as our departmental motto is: "If you can move, you can dance!"
