Cultural
The girls follow a cultural programme during the academic day that includes art, drama and music. Additional cultural activities are offered to the various grades as part of the extra-mural programme. These include clubs or activities and vary depending on the age of the girls.
Music
Music is considered a vital part of the curriculum and its study unequivocally enhances academic performance.
The school orchestra provides an opportunity for all string, woodwind and brass students to hone their instrumental skills in a nurturing team environment. The Grade 6 and 7 girls can also join two vibrant marimba groups.
An initiative of the Music Department is the iPad band. Due to the technical advances within the music and recording industry most music is digitally produced.
As part of the class music programme, Grade 4 pupils get the opportunity to play and learn Ukulele, Clarinet and Cello for a term.
All girls who are interested are welcome to enrol in the Associated Board of Royal Schools of Music theory programme. The school offers classes in Grades 1 to 5, taking place at 07:00.
The following instrumental lessons are currently on offer at an additional cost: piano, cello, saxophone, violin, recorder, percussion, flute, drum kit, voice, clarinet and guitar. The majority of these lessons take place during the morning.
St Peter’s Grls Prep has four choirs:
- Chapel Choir: Grades 5 to 7
- Chamber Choir: Grades 5 to 7 (selected from the Chapel Choir)
- Cadet Choir: Grades 3 to 4
- Junior Prep Choir: From Grade 2
- The Legacy Group: a small group of Grade 7 girls
Drama
The St Peter’s Girls Prep Drama programme works at developing the girls’ self-awareness, their ability to manage their emotions, creative expression, building of self-confidence and a desire to become self-motivated. There are a variety of performances, which are specific to the different grades:
- Main school production (Grade 7)
- House play festival (Grade 6)
- Informal plays (Grade 5)
- Poetry presentations (Grade 6)
- Music, Art, Drama and Dance (MADD) evening (Grade 3 and 4)
Art
St Peter’s Girls Prep School prides itself on the high quality of art produced by the pupils. Every girl is given the opportunity to express herself through a variety of mediums, from drawing and painting to sculpture and printmaking.
Girls are taught skills that develop both their craftsmanship and their ability to present their work with pride. We believe in using our assigned time for practical exercises and the atmosphere in the art room is fun, lively, free and non-threatening.
