2020 Teacher's Day Celebration

Today, Monday, 5 October is annual World Teachers Day which has been held since 1994. This day is observed to celebrate you, our teachers and to appreciate your efforts and influence on our student's lives and education. This year, in 2020, the World Teachers day theme is “Teachers: Leading in crisis, reimagining the future”. The theme is completely apt with the current situation where you, our teachers have stepped up and whilst I do not want to dwell too much upon the unprecedented challenges of recent months, I do want to share with you my admiration for the courage and resilience that you have demonstrated this year.

As we now begin to emerge from the other side of this crisis, we do so in the sure knowledge that those bonds which have been forged in adversity have only served to enrich and intensify our relationships with one another. We have inspired each other to live with hope and face the future in the sure knowledge that we will emerge from this in a stronger position than ever before. We have not simply survived; we have grown together and thrived together during these most testing of times. 

The academic, co-curricular and staffing changes that you made during the year have enabled us, throughout this period, to offer an educational offering which is the envy of most independent schools. I am immeasurably proud of you and I marvel at the resourcefulness and the compassion that you have demonstrated for all our students. In countless ways, you have revealed the depth of your love for our College. You have moved proverbial mountains during recent months and have done so with grace and kindness. Together with our students, you have all adapted to the new norm – always seeking to ‘go the extra mile’ in order to maximise learning opportunities.

I am proud, grateful and humbled by all.
