Academic Term Three
As another term draws to a close, I would like to focus on all the academic wins this term. We started the Term off with finishing the Term 2 Examinations delayed due to the Covid lockdown. This was an uphill battle for students and staff, however, as I have checked and analysed the Final Results, I am pleased to note that we see the desired trend of improved results from Term 2 Examination. I would like to congratulate the students on the excellent results. Our students have demonstrated their resilience and those who have put in the effort have reaped the rewards
At the start of last term, the Grade 11 Drama students enjoyed a trip to the Soweto Theatre. It was an incredible experience to be back in the theatre watching ‘A Raisin in the Sun’. The History Department followed suit by having the Holocaust and Genocide Centre visit the College for an interactive session. It was wonderful to see our students engage with the presenter with a maturity beyond their years.
Some of the reflections from our Grade 9 students
“To stand up for what I believe, even if I am outnumbered”
“I am going to be kinder and stand up for what is right”
“I choose to look at people differently and know that they have gone through hard times”
In October, we celebrated the academic successes of the Grade 12 students at our Grade 12 Prizegiving . This prestigious ceremony always starts with Diligence awards. It is a proud day when we make 70 Diligence awards and again, I reiterate that as a College, we highly regard this acknowledgement, as it honours students who have worked consistently throughout the year giving their best.
In the famous words of Winston Churchill, “continuous effort – not strength or intelligence – is the key to unlocking our potential” (https://www.azquotes.com/quote/56295)
Yi Lou is the recipient of the Dux Award for 2021. Besides this award, he received thirteen academic awards on the day, an exceptional achievement indeed!. Lauren Bowes and Ahlume Mzwakali received Academic Half Colours, and Bailey Hawsey, Joshua Dunn and Ryan Axe Academic Full Colours. Joshua Cope, Urish Naidoo and Katleho Mothebe were awarded Academic Honours, while the following students were rewarded with Academic Honours. Well done to Nomthandazo Rametsi, Brandon Hawsey, Akrithi Bhimma, Yi Lou, Justeene Hallowes, Ananda Saravanja and Hsuan-Yu Shih. We are most proud of our matric group and dedicated staff who have managed the academic interruptions over the past two years to produce such a wonderful set of results
The National senior Certificates results will be released by the IEB on 18 January 2022. We wait with abated breath so see the success of each of our Grade 12 students.
In October, we enjoyed that privilege of Dr Taban addressing the College community. He shared his inspirational life story. Finally, he honored the Top Three academic students in each grade by gifting them with an autographed copy of his autobiography ‘The Boy Who Never Gave Up’ as well as a gift voucher. A real lesson in resilience and encouragement for our students
My wish is that every family enjoys a healthy and blessed break ahead. I look forward to the new year as we continue ‘Bravely into the future’.
