Appointment of Chaplain and Head of Transformation and Inclusion
Revd. Motlhakane joined the College as a chaplain on secondment from St Stephens Anglican church where he serves as assistant priest. Before St Peter's he served as Chaplain at Johns College Houghton. Before that, he had served as a youth pastor for 10 years within the Diocese of Johannesburg. Revd. Kabelo is passionate about Africa and is increasingly being recognized as a thought leader in Afro-centric theological doctrine. The core of his work is around youth and community advancement and social justice consciousness. His theology is undergirded by African consciousness, a non-polarizing idea of God, and living an inclusive gospel.
Rev Motlhakane graduated with a BA degree in Theology and BTH Honours in Ethics and Systematic Theology, both degrees obtained Cum Laude from the University of Pretoria. He is completing his master’s degree in Ethics and Systematic Theology. During his time at the University of Pretoria, he was elected the first black and Anglican chairperson for the faculty of theology student leadership in the 99 years of the faculty’s existence and an SRC member serving as head of academics. He is a Golden Key International honour society recipient for ranking in the top 15% of the University of Pretoria in academics. He is also a recipient of the University of Pretoria’s honours colours for both Academic and leadership excellence.
Born, raised, and educated in Soweto, in his free time, Rev Motlhakane is an avid runner, a cook (@Revcooksza), and a mentor to youth. Revd. Motlhakane is Married, and they have a 5-year-old daughter.
Revd. Kabelo will be officially installed by the Bishop of Johannesburg, The Right Revd Dr Steve Moreo.
