Cultural Wrap-up Term Two 2023
The cultural sphere at St Peter’s College had a very active term that commenced during the April holiday with an exchange tour to Italy! The group had spent three weeks touring Rome, Sorrento, Pisa, Venice, San Marino, Ascoli Piceno, San Gimignano and Florence. They flew, speed-trained, ferried and ate an abundance of delicious Italian cuisine. This, of course, was all in the name of culture!
The term properly kicked off with the now familiar strains of the “Music Bootcamp”. For three days, all our ensembles - be they vocal or instrumental - studied repertoire and fine-tuned their performances.
Our “Mouth Warriors” (Debating Teams) competed with great acclaim and aplomb throughout the term and our college earned the respect of experienced teams as we took on the giants!
An initiative of the Jubilee Celebrations was the Cultural Bonanza held at the college with Benoni High School as our guests. A full-day programme of Debate, Music, Drama, Art and Dance was ended with a heart-wrenching finale of choral and Marimbas mash-up. It was a smash hit and will (hopefully) become an annual event. A reverse visit was held in May with Krugersdorp High and our students shone at this event.
The Inter-House Dance eventually took place and “Da Boys” once again ran off with the main prizes. Well done to all who participated.
Next up was the Kingsmead Music Festival where many of our ensembles, as well as our choir, highlighted their considerable talents.
In between all the sporting derbies, our musical production of “Beauty and the Beast” rehearsed tirelessly each weekend. This culminated in the extraordinary week of six performances that astounded the audience. This was truly an exceptional event and Mrs Miles and her team created pure wonder!
