Mandela Day celebration and thanksgiving service
This week was observed as Mandela Week. The theme was: ‘It is not about us and them, but all of us’.
The St Peter’s boys and girls responded, in true St Peter's style, to the Community Partnership's call for clothing, shoes, blankets, etc. for those in need. The Boys and Girls Junior Prep pupils decorated a skip with beautiful artwork that depicts the hands of hope which was used to collect the donated clothing. By this morning the skip was overflowing
This morning the week closed with a special Mandela service, on the chapel lawn in front of the Mandela Tree, with prayers and an address on the great icon. The Madiba Tree was watered to ensure it grows in strength and the children were encouraged to try and remember Nelson Mandela’s philosophy and to serve others in order to make a better life for all.
While the various services were underway this morning there was a definite feeling of being proudly South African and being part of Mandela's legacy, even the wind picked up and the Anglican Church, St Peter's and the South African flags vigorously blew in the wind!
