Peafowl Shadowing
Today I slipped away from my desk, camera in hand and started sneaking after the wildlife on campus. No, this time I was not taking snaps of the boys but rather the beautiful and majestic peafowl that we are so fortunate to have wandering around on the St Peter’s Prep estate.
I followed two peahens who were trying desperately to camouflage themselves in the trees to hide from me. I then found the albino peahen with her chick on the Letty Bell lawn. This little chick is feisty and was gathering up crusts and crumbs from the boys left-over sandwiches. Mum and chick were having a feast!
I was engrossed taking photos and soaking up a bit of much-needed sun when I heard a loud honk behind and above me. The most beautiful peacock was looking down at me (luckily that was all he was doing …) and showing off his magnificent plumage, which was blowing in the breeze.
He posed for a while, lost interest in me and hid behind a branch; my shadowing time was over.
