ST PETER’S BOYS JUNIOR PREP - EVERY CHILD A READER
This journey has been absolutely amazing I am so grateful to be part of such an elegant and well managed school.
In the Foundation phase of learning, children “learn to read”, thereafter children need to be able to “read to learn.” This is why reading is so important and the love of reading even more important.
With Book Week this year we celebrated books and authors and also incorporated art, creativity and reading. The boys let their imaginations run wild which allowed them to get fully involved in all the festivities.
Book Week promotes reading, the importance of reading is emphasised and we encourage parents to get involved in reading too! After all, we know that reading is the most important skill that all children should be able to have and this needs practice on a daily basis.
The boys were exposed to different books which were written by two different authors with very different styles of writing. The teachers read the books to the boys and they were transported from their own world to another. Between the pages of the books the boys became immersed in the lives of fictional characters and they learnt about a culture that was entirely different from their own. They experienced a range of emotions and they acquired new knowledge.
I would like to thank all the JP boys for being so invested in the Book Week Programme. Thanks to the teachers for helping to create the most beautiful artwork. This was the first Book Week we’ve had since I started working in the Library and I must say that It has been absolutely wonderful! I also would like to thank the boys’ parents for being so involved in all the activities that were sent home for the boys to do. I would like to say thank you to Kenda Melvill-Smith (the JP Head) for her leadership style, showing support, compassion, sympathy and empathy … the list is endless.
The week culminated in the boys dressing up as book characters. Wow, the boys and the parents certainly got creative, there we some absolutely amazing outfits!
Thank you very much to everybody who made JP BOOK WEEK 2021 such a success.
