St Peter's Boys Prep Celebrates Ascension Day
Ascension Thursday is celebrated throughout the world. It is the final chapter of Christ’s life on earth. We celebrated His birth, His life, His death and His resurrection. Now He ascends and is taken up into heaven.
This year we focused on the realisation that instead of Jesus being in the eyes of the few, His ascension allows God to be in the hearts of everyone. He no longer exists in one place. This realisation reminds us that God is with us and no matter what we do nor no matter how lonely we might be, God is with us.
At our Ascension Day Eucharist we extinguished the Easter Candle to remind us that Jesus, who is the light of the world, has ascended and because He lives within us His light shines through our lives. This is a huge responsibility we carry, our thoughts, words and deeds testify to the fact that Jesus is alive.
My prayer is that we will live out the words of this hymn:
“May we be a shining light to the nations
A shining light to the peoples of the earth
Till the whole world sees the glory of your name
May Your pure light shine through us.”
