St Peter’s College boasts a number of Creative Writing stars
Four such students entered the SACEE Creative Writing for Secondary Schools Competition in August, and they excelled in their respective categories.
Sienna Lenci and Emma Barron were awarded bronze medals for their poem entries, and Pelonolo Moerane achieved bronze for her short story. We are so proud of their accomplishments and look forward to reading more of their work in the future.
Takondwa Mphande is congratulated on winning the gold medal for her short story, “Silence”. The narrator recounts her brother’s suicide and how she and her mother deal with their grief. It was incredibly emotive in its depiction of how common personal objects can seem strange after the loss of a loved one. Takondwa expressed incredible insight into how a mother’s inability to speak about the death of her son, deeply affects the narrator.
