St Peter's College Online Teaching

The Lockdown, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, has been an opportunity for St Peter’s College to embrace online learning.

I want to thank our Deputy Headmistress of Academics, Mrs Shelly Matthews, as well as, our Director of Learning Technology, Mr Steve Tudhope, for driving the online initiative. I want to commend them for putting together the attached online survey and the Online Teaching plan, which is a response to the feedback we received from our parents and students.

It has been wonderful to witness our staff coming together during this challenging time for all, and produce some outstanding online work for students. Everyone has undoubtedly moved into a space outside of their comfort zone, overcome many challenges all for the benefit of our students. I have loved the high standard and quality of the work produced by the various departments – to say I am in awe is an understatement.

However, as we head into further as yet unchartered waters, it was prudent for us to ask what our parents & students wanted at this time? Hence, we sent out an online survey to measure how we performed with our online programme and possible suggestions for improvement. We need to be prepared in case the “Lockdown” is going to be in place for an extended period of time, which could be a reality.

What our students wanted seemed like common knowledge, however, if we didn’t dig deeper we might have missed some critical signals, and we may in fact, even wind up responding against what our students are craving. It was dangerous for us to assume what they want. It was therefore critical for us to get input from a broader range of individuals for this information to be meaningful, hence the suggestion of an online survey, the results of which are attached with the plan for the way forward.

At St Peter’s College, we endeavour to provide a nurturing and stimulating environment where young people are guided by teachers of calibre to develop self-awareness and positive relationships. We will strive to give each student the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and skills to empower them to adapt and flourish in an ever-changing world.
