Physical Education
St Peter’s Junior Prep has two full-time Physical Education teachers within the department. During lessons gross motor skills, ball skills, swimming, gymnastics, athletics, perceptual development, dance, climbing wall and trampoline activities, tennis, netball and hockey are taught.
The aim is to help each pupil reach the stage where they are able to perform basic gross motor skills at an appropriate level, to help each pupil use these skills in play and daily activities in order to maximise their health, growth and development.
The Junior Prep programme is designed to promote each pupil’s enjoyment of exercise and to enhance feelings of self-worth and self-confidence, while ‘moving to learn and learning to move’.
Towards the end of Grade 2, the girls participate in an internal swimming gala and perform a netball demonstration. This is a step in preparing them for the Grade 3 competitive sports programme.
By the time the girls reach Grade 3, they take part in two afternoon sports sessions a week and are prepared for competition in sport.
