About Pre-Prep

About Pre-Prep

We are incredibly proud of how our Pre-Prep has flourished over the years. Opened in 2020, from the very beginning, we recognised the importance of creating an environment that aligns our children with the ethos of St Peter’s, building a love for learning that remains with them as they grow.

Through our play-based approach to Early Childhood Development, we have seen firsthand how children thrive when given the opportunity to learn through exploration, creativity and connection with the outdoors. By honouring the natural development of preschool-aged children, we have cultivated curious minds, confident individuals and a strong foundation for lifelong learning.

As we continue to grow, we remain committed to providing a space where children experience the magic of discovery, guided by dedicated teachers who understand the importance of play in shaping young minds. We celebrate the journey so far and look forward to the continued growth of our Pre-Prep community.

Our Philosophy

Our philosophy is grounded in the fundamental principle of making childhood a positively memorable experience. We believe that when children are exposed to fun, exciting and adventurous sensory activities, they learn and absorb information more easily.

We believe in:

  • The St Peter’s Family, which grows an involved community based on Christian values. Spirituality is at the heart of the environment as we help children reach for their big futures.
  • Listening to our children. Every child deserves to be seen and heard as a valued community member.
  • Giving honour to children’s ideas and thoughts. This sets the foundation for a dynamic education.
  • Developing every child’s individual strengths and abilities. Each child develops differently, and this should be celebrated.
  • The quality and happiness of our teachers. This translates into a positive and nurturing environment.

An Inquiry-Based Learning Curriculum

Children are born with an innate sense of curiosity and a desire to explore the world around them. This natural drive to question, investigate and discover is at the heart of our inquiry-based learning curriculum. By embracing a child-centred approach, we design themed learning experiences that are guided by their interests, questions and ideas.

Through this engaging process, children develop critical thinking skills, creativity and a lifelong love for learning. Inquiry-based learning not only develops their sense of wonder but also empowers them to take ownership of their educational journey. As they explore, take risks and collaborate, they build a strong foundation for future learning, setting them on an exciting path of discovery that extends far beyond the classroom.

  • Providing children with child-initiated play activities that develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Teaching children about themselves and those around them, thus developing social skills and encouraging interactions in a manner that respects individual differences.
  • Lessons and activities conducted outdoors and in nature, as this forms a large part of learning. Young children are naturally drawn to playing outside. This supports physical development and also plays a huge role in cultivating a love of the environment.
  • Ensuring a strong foundation in pre-reading, pre-writing and numeracy skills – based on perceptual development – so that children are well prepared for formal schooling when they progress to Prep School.
