PASTORAL CARE

The Pastoral Care Programme at St Peter’s Prep School is designed to nurture each boy’s character and equip them with essential life skills. At its heart is the House system where boys belong to a specific House and where senior teachers (Housemaster/Housemistress) mentor smaller groups of boys across grades, creating meaningful connections. Wellbeing classes, based on Prof Lea Waters’ SEARCH model (Strengths, Emotional Management, Attention & Awareness, Relationships, Coping and Habits & Goals), proactively develop coping strategies for life’s challenges. Our Izenzo Zobuntu curriculum enables boys to engage in challenging discussions that empower them to become responsible global citizens.

BUDDY PROGRAMME

Our Buddy Programme, grounded in action research, builds relationships between Grade 3 and Grade 7 boys through a six-week programme, promoting camaraderie and support. This programme creates a ‘big brother-little brother’ relationship, providing a sense of responsibility for the older boys and building comfort and confidence in younger boys as they move into the Senior section of the school. These relationships last for years.

The Value Programme

This is further enhanced by our St Peter’s values, which encourage our boys to respect others and to appreciate diversity and inclusion as they advocate for justice and equality through their actions and perspectives. Our value system underpins the pastoral programme, supported by numerous policies, including an anti-bullying policy and a structured disciplinary procedure encompassing awareness, intervention and disciplinary phases.

The St Peter’s Individual Growth Programme (SPIG)

Our leadership programme offers boys the chance to practise and embody core values – responsibility, collaboration, honour, compassion, respect and resilience. This framework drives personal growth and ensures every boy thrives as a true St Peter’s Boy.
