Academics

At St Peter’s Girls Prep, we focus on the educational ‘process’ – not only on the end result. With this in mind, we develop well-rounded girls who are academically prepared for their high school years and beyond, and who are emotionally intelligent and socially responsible.

Through innovative teaching, personalised support and a value system rooted in our Anglican ethos, we equip our pupils with the skills and confidence to thrive.

Our commitment to holistic education ensures every girl leaves St Peter’s with a strong foundation for lifelong learning.

Teaching and Learning Approach

We incorporate modern pedagogies such as:

  • Visible Learning (John Hattie)
  • Growth Mindset and Positive Psychology (Prof Carol Dweck and Prof Martin Seligman)
  • Thinking Tools and Cognitive Education (Edward de Bono)
  • Inquiry-Based Learning (John Dewey)

Personalised Support

We recognise that every girl learns differently, and we therefore strive to provide tailored support for girls with unique educational needs. We provide in-class remedial support for every grade and allocate two teachers per class of 26 pupils for English and Mathematics in Grades 6 and 7 – giving us the opportunity to extend and differentiate the learning process.

Student-Led Learning

Our Student-Led Academic Progress Meetings ensure that each girl is responsible for her own learning journey. This philosophy has empowered our girls to develop their own strategies to manage the areas of school life they find challenging and put clear plans in place to make the required progress.

Pastoral Care

At St Peter’s, we believe that character development – in the form of emotional, social and ethical growth – is an important part of the academic process. Our Pastoral Care system includes a Director of Pastoral Care and Heads of House, as well as dedicated mentors for every girl in Grades 6 and 7. This ensures our girls can thrive in a safe and supportive learning environment.
