Our Executive Committee is comprised of: The Rector (Rob Macaulay), Boys Prep Head (Catherine Steenhoff), Girls Prep Head (Darrel Webb), Business Manager (Moira Hodgson), Academic Heads of the Boys Prep (Craig Jooste) and Girls Prep (Rose Nkomo), our Chaplain (Richard Wossler), Head of HR (Natasha Thomas), Head of Marketing (Lindsay McMurray), the Foundation Manager (Monica Sloane) and the Finance Manager (Lerato Maredi). Rector: St Peter’s Prep Rob joined the St Peter’s family in 2013 as Headmaster of the Boys Prep. In an educational career that spans four decades, his focus has been on values-driven education, curriculum innovation and faith-based leadership. Rob began his academic journey at the University of the Witwatersrand, earning a Bachelor of Primary Education, followed by a BEd in Educational Management from UNISA. He later completed a Master of Education in Curriculum Development with a focus on IT. His commitment to continuous professional development saw him complete the Heads of School Leadership Programme at WITS Business School, and he earned a Bachelor of Theology in 2022, the same year he was ordained as an Anglican priest. Rob believes in a collaborative approach to education and uses the analogy of a three-legged pot to describe the symbiotic relationship between parent, child and school in providing an educational environment, which is influenced as much by modelling as it is by intentional educational programmes. Rob promotes servant leadership, which he describes as the creation of the optimal environment for growth for those who are being led, as the leadership style best suited to a school setting, both by the teacher in the classroom and as the basis for a positive employee working environment. In 2022, Rob was appointed Rector of St Peter’s Prep Schools, overseeing the Boys, Girls, and Pre-Prep schools. His role encompasses faith and ethos development, curriculum alignment, and executive oversight of financial and operational sustainability. He also serves in a non-stipendiary capacity as Assistant Priest at St Mark’s Parish in Northriding, Chair of the Independent Schools Association of Southern Africa (ISASA) Central Region Committee, and member of the ISASA National Council. Headmistress: Boys Prep Catherine Steenhoff is an experienced and committed educational leader, with more than two decades in independent education. She is known for her dedication to academic excellence, holistic child development and the nurturing of a strong, values-driven school culture. Catherine began her career after completing a PGCE at the University of Cape Town, graduating with distinction and receiving a Merit Award from the South African Teachers’ Association. Before entering teaching, she was involved in environmental education and research and later worked at an NGO supporting people with disabilities, where she focused on improving accessibility and integrating communities into natural environments. She taught at St Katharine’s School before moving to St Peter’s Boys Prep, where she developed expertise in curriculum design, classroom practice and building meaningful relationships with pupils. She went on to lead the Geography Department and was later appointed Head of Middle School, overseeing both Academic and Pastoral Programmes. In 2010, she became Deputy Head and Director of Academics, guiding curriculum innovation, staff development and strategic academic planning. Catherine has contributed to international research through the International Boys’ Schools Coalition, where her co-authored paper was selected as one of the top 10 global submissions. She is passionate about inclusion, transformation, and creating environments where every child can thrive. Catherine holds qualifications in education, business, psychology and nature conservation. She is married with three sons and a foster son. She enjoys time outdoors, cooking, gardening and exploring South Africa’s natural beauty. Head: Boys Junior Prep Kenda Melvill-Smith has devoted more than forty years to teaching, guided by a deep belief that working with young children is both a privilege and a joy. From an early age she knew she wanted to teach and has never wavered. She maintains that teaching can never be boring when each day is shaped by curious little ones who bring energy, humour and fresh discoveries. For the past fifteen years, Kenda has been part of our family and has led the Boys Junior Prep at St Peter’s, deepening her understanding of how young boys learn and grow. Her passion lies in the foundation phase, where learning involves play, imagination and exploration. Boys thrive when they learn through doing. Kenda’s philosophy centres on seeing each child as an individual, identifying strengths and supporting a unique learning journey in a safe, nurturing environment. Her approach draws on values-based practice and conscious discipline to support academic, social and emotional development, with strong emphasis on the whole child. Known for her calm kindness and genuine respect, Kenda walks alongside teachers, interns and parents with encouragement and guidance. Our Management Committee is made up of the following staff: Headmistress (Catherine Steenhoff), Junior Prep Head (Kenda Melvill-Smith), Middle School Head (Sheri Curling) and the Heads of Academics (Craig Jooste), Admin (Sean Porter), Pastoral Care (Justin Attlee), Sport (Callan Cronin), Performing Arts (Hugo Roodt), Diversity & Inclusion (Thero Modisagae), Curriculum & Innovation (Sean Creamer) and Marketing (Lindsay McMurray).
