“It is in your hands to create a better world for all who live in it.” – Nelson Mandela

This year’s Mandela Day theme was ‘It is in your hands’. In honour of Madiba and to continue his legacy, each School attended a beautiful chapel service and then sang the National Anthem outside under our Mandela tree. This was followed by children and staff dedicating 67 minutes of community service and giving back in the following ways:

JUNIOR PREPS AND PRE-PREP
Our 100 Days, 100 Ways to Give Back Mandela Day initiative was a wonderful success. Thanks to the generosity of our school community, our Pre-Prep and Junior Prep children packed 100 food and hygiene care parcels for Camp Sizanani Life Skills, supporting child-led families and vulnerable young people.

What made this initiative especially meaningful was the journey leading up to Mandela Day. Our children earned money by completing chores at home and then used this money to buy items to donate. They learned valuable lessons about hard work, responsibility and the joy of giving.

The children in the Senior Prep of both Boys Prep and Girls Prep undertook wonderful initiatives:

BOYS PREP

Grade 3 and 4

Made play dough, Maths Kits and a Maths Timestable game called Kaboom for The African Angels School in the Eastern Cape.

Grade 5 to 7

Made fleece blankets and scarves and collected peanut butter, socks and gloves which were donated to St Mungo’s Community Service Programme. The offcuts and extra blankets were donated to the SPCA.

GIRLS PREP

Grade 3

Made sock and soap packs for Christian Revival Church (CRC) for the Needy, which runs a community feeding scheme based in Soweto.

Grade 4 to 6 

Made soup packs (around 230 in total) which were delivered to Christian Revival Church (CRC) for the Needy as well as to Helping Hands, a charity that supports elderly people in need.

Grade 7

Made blankets which were donated to the obstetrician ward at Rahima Moosa Mother and Children Hospital, Baragwanath.

CENTRAL SERVICES STAFF

Made sandwiches for Helping Hands, a charity that supports elderly people in need.

A heartfelt thank you to our parents for your encouragement and support. Together, we celebrated the spirit of Mandela Day while demonstrating how a caring community can make a meaningful difference through compassion, service and generosity.
